Doctor, Nurses, I Know the Difference
Thursday, October 25, 2007
She had her one year check-up this afternoon, you know, the one with all the shots. And the extra shot for the flu, since it's gonna be flu season soon. Really, we nearly ran out of injectable limbs.
But, see, the nurse gives the shots, and does the weighing and the measuring and whatnot. Still, Lily knows the difference, & the doctor for some reason is way worse. The doctor made her cry that hitching-can't-catch-my-breath cry that we all remember crying when, like, seriously exasperated, even though the only invasive thing the doctor did was to stick a tongue depressor in her mouth for maybe a second or two, and peeked in each ear for extremely brief periods of time. The cooing doesn't matter like you think it might; everyone coos at Lily, strangers in the store, people on the street, whoever.
The Nurse, on the other hand, brought the serious stuff. The Nurse brought the band-aids, the platter of syringes, the alcohol wipes. Lily was relatively tolerant of her. But is not like she was cool with the Nurse though, she just melted down less for her. Weird.
Did I mention there were shots?
